Tokkelen: EN: Never drive the winch directly up and down (plucking). Or lift or lower it for short distances in quick succession (inching). Give it time!

Slack rope:

Avoid slack rope and hoisting at an angle. This will cause the rope to become tangled. Rinse the rope thoroughly before hoisting again. Never use the winch itself to hoist the rope when it is twisted. This will damage the winch motor.
